First of all, thank you for choosing SPC. In this article we are going to guide you through getting started with your Dickens.

Turning on your Dickens

To turn on your Dickens you need to press the  power_settings_new  button that you will find at the bottom of your device.

Once you have pressed that button, your Dickens’ electronic ink screen of will turn on and the indicator at the bottom will turn green.

Your Dickens has an internal battery. Before you start using it you will need to charge it with a charger. To do this, we recommend using the USB cable that you will find among the accessories supplied in the box and connect it to a PC or Mac, or to the power supply using a USB charger from your mobile ‘phone or tablet (not supplied). It does not matter if the Dickens is turned on or off, as soon as it is connected, the screen will turn on and the charging process will begin. A red indicator next to the Dickens micro USB connector will let you know that everything is fine.

Remember to charge the battery when:

  • The empty battery icon appears on the screen battery_alert
  • The keys do not activate
  • The reader does not work correctly under normal circumstances

Battery life

Your Dickens has a battery life of about 2 months, based on a reading time of 30 minutes per day. For Dickens Light, this duration may be reduced depending on the use of the backlight.
